MUSIC OVER THE YEARS
In my early twenties, I joined the band Rubber Mallet as frontman, featuring Eugene Samson on lead guitar, Dr Mat Sax (P.M.T.) on bass, flute and saxophone (not all at the same time, of course), Jessica Christ on keyboards and Luke Bill Lungstrom III on drums and percussion. We wrote and played an anarchic mix of groove-funk-rock stuff and were explosive live. With plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour, we performed our own original tunes, with the exception of just two cover songs - both by Frank Zappa (Uncle Frank, as we liked to call him) - Cosmik Debris and Keep It Greasy. We were compared to the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias, and managed somehow to record a demo E.P. called Dayglo Demo, before we spontaneously combusted due to over-massaged egos. Still, we had a fantastic time while it lasted.
Later on in life, eschewing the more typical mid-life crisis of buying a Porsche or Harley Davidson motorcycle, I instead formed the band Under the Circumstances (UTC) with Andy Powell on lead guitar, Will Peel on bass and Nigel Dutton on drums. Will and I wrote most of the songs together and we gigged for ten years, notching up a couple of single releases. On this page of the website, I feature some of the songs Rubber Mallet and UTC recorded over time, and include some of my solo songs for posterity.
I very much hope you enjoy listening to them.
